FAQ'S

As a woman, how can I reduce the chances of being assaulted / molested?

A review of assaults on women show that some very common mistakes made by women are;

•Opening the house door to a stranger.

•Not locking your car doors (ALL OF THEM) while driving.

•Getting into the attackers vehicle when threatened with a weapon to do so. (The chances are that if you scream and run he will simply move on to an easier target.)

•Pulling over when a man drives alongside you pointing at your car & pretending something is wrong.

•Not being alert in the parking lot.

•Entering a dark, deserted parking lot alone.

•Not checking your car back seat before entering the car.

•Not being aware of your surroundings as you move to your car.

•Trusting a stranger, no matter how clean-cut and honest he appears to be.

DO REMEMBER - a potential attacker is likely to leave you alone if you LOOK aware of your surroundings, alert and ready for action.

What should I do to make my children more secure?

We suggest you teach your kids;

•That they have a right to be safe.

•That their bodies belong to them - specially the parts covered by the swimsuit.

•Its okay to say NO if someone wants to touch them - specially in their private areas.

•To TELL if they feel something wrong / bad is being done to them.

•To get help against bullies.

•Not to talk to strangers

•Not to go anywhere / with anyone without asking you first.

•What to do if they get lost.

•A LOT OF CHILDREN ARE ALWAYS TOLD THEY MUST ALWAYS LISTEN TO ADULTS. Teach them to break rules if their safety is threatened. And always build confidence in them that they will be believed if they report someone / something.

I keep getting threatening / obscene phone calls. What should I do?

Whenever you answer the phone just say HELLO - do NOT give your name or number. Never reveal information about yourself to a stranger & never say that you are alone at home.
In case of abusive calls simply put the phone off the hook and walk away. DO NOT say anything emotional - that is just what the caller wants you to do. If the calls continue report to the police.
